We celebrated fish and fishing at the ‘Ramponkarachem Fest’ with the local fishermen from Arambol, the parish priest Fr Pio Almeida and the “festakar” Marius Fernandes along with assistant professor of Botany at GPCOE, Pratiksha Dabolkar. The screw pine [Pandanus species], the goat’s foot creeper [Ipomoea pes caprae] and the mangroves are important plants for the sustainability of fish. By the end of the month it is time for the ‘Zaddamcho Utsov’ or Plant Festival in Socorro along with the ‘Poderamchem Fest’ for all the Goenche pao like me. It is not for nothing that Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” even before whether it rains or it shines, the long weekend from Dusshera to Gandhi Jayanti promises to be a fun time for Goenche pao.
